Our Projects

Our world wide projects.

Philippines

The children and youth of Manila face street violence on a daily basis. These children should be full of dreams, ambition and hope. Instead they see dark holes, struggles and violence where they should see bright futures and possibilities.

There are a lot of children in the Philippines for example in 2009, 35% of the 92 million Filipinas and Filipinos were under the age of 14. Unemployment, drug addictions and domestic violence are part of many families’ everyday lives, destroying many people and the concept of what family life should be. Children grow up in a hopeless environment where they have no opportunity to work for more than a little food. This leads to frustration and fear, some of these children have no other choice than to join street gangs. The drug trade, robberies, killings and prostitution become part of daily life for many young children, creating a vicious circle. The hope for a life with dignity seems to turn to dirt in the dusty streets of Manila.

They should have the opportunity to live out their dreams and to find ways of improving their living situation by escaping the street violence which has become a daily part of their lives. That’s where Hip Hop dance can help them to transfer the experienced into something positive.

Kids Hip Hop Inspiration Tour

Together with carefully selected, social competent, world renowned international Hip Hop dancers and in close cooperation with Onesimo, an aid organization active on the ground, we visit different urban slum areas in Metro Manila giving free dance workshops for hundreds of children inside their neighborhood. We inspire the kids and give as many young people as possible an insight into the friendly and positive hip hop culture. During the workshops we connect the kids with local filipino dancers to keep their motivation alive.

Manila Art Project (Graffity)

Manila Art Project is a Graffity art project in collaboration with the streetartists Daniel „Daschu“ Schuster, Florian Kaiser and the photographer Benno Heller from Germany. In a two weeks schedule we painted huge faces of citizens of a slum called Bagong Silang (Navotas) onto the walls in that area. Bagong Silang is a cementary where people lived for more then 20 years between the death. 2016 the government decided to demolish their houses and to relocate them. As rememberence and respect for the people who transfered this crazy place into their home for so many years, we decided to paint some selected faces of the citizens in huge size on the walls as kind of memorial to honor their life, strength and power.

Sponsorship of Cultural Events

We partnering with local dance event organizers and support their events financially. We only do this, when kids get free entry at the event and the event featuring a kids category in their dance battle program. So those events we support have a focus on youth. Those events strenghten the local dance culture and unite the local Hip Hop community. For the kids those events are really important as they can refresh their inspiration as well as having a platform to show their skills and gain respect for their progress by the local dance community.

Germany

Although Germany is a rich country, its facing also problems with young people in urban poor areas. Poverty, youth identity problems and  missing idols brings people on a wrong path easily. Hip Hop 4 Hope started in a youth center in Freiburg, where we practised with different kind of kids who was involved in criminal activities. Also the current refugee increase brings many young people into Germany who could need a tool to express themselves. With our Hip Hop programs we catch those kids motivation and show them a positive and healthy way to become active and to express themselves.

Our main base is in Freiburg, Germany. We also worked in Stuttgart and Mannheim.

Dance aWay

In Freiburg Germany, Islam Seddiki created a 60min theater dance show called Dance Away with syrian refugees. In the show they telling their story how they came to Germany and how they experienced the cultural shock from their view. For the show we worked 2 years with the kids, teaching them in weekly dance classes to build up their skills. The grand final was a 60min theater show at E-WERK in Freiburg with 3 sold out shows!

Cultural Events

We organize Hip Hop events to support the local Hip Hop culture of Freiburg. Those events are maintainly for the youth. With DJ´s, dancers and other Hip Hop artists from abroad we bring new cultural and creative input into our city. Those events often inspire the youth to learn more about the elements of Hip Hop. You can see how the practise spots increase after those events. Those events are multicultural with people from different backgrounds and different religions and believings. Its a peaceful atmosphere where people can exchange. Our last events was one of the biggest in south Germany.

In weekly classes we gave free workshops to children who escaped from war. Every week we visited refugee centers in Stuttgart, Germany to teach breakdance. Many of those kids are traumatized and experienced horrible things. Dance helps them to express their feelings and to process their stories. Those kids who was really strong interested into dance, we invited into the public practise sessions of local dancers around Stuttgart.
